An Overview of the Special Region of Yogyakarta

To be held in the heart of the City of Culture and Academia, the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

IMO will be honored to highlight the beauty and the intricacies of Yogyakarta’s ethnic culture as it becomes host to one of the biggest, international competitions on medical science. Enriched with its lavish history and standing as one of the most prideful yet humble provinces of Indonesia, Yogyakarta shall provide its warmest welcomes to anyone who visits.

Universitas Gadjah Mada, especially its Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, will host the event of IMO 2018 from beginning to end.

As of one of the oldest medical schools in Indonesia, established in 1946, the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing is a research-based educational institution, with internationally acknowledged reputation in academics, basic research, be it clinical or translational, and a continuous, ever-developing contribution to the society through its community service activities.

Digestive is a branch of medicine relating to the digestive system and its disorders and diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract (organs from mouth to anus along thealimentary canal), bringing along its subspecialty of hepatology, relating to the study of the liver, gallbladder, biliary tree, and pancreas, along with their disorders. These will become the focus of the questions and study cases of this field.

In this subject, questions and study cases will be centered on the musculoskeletal system, an organ system involving the skeleton, muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints, and other connective tissues that support and bind tissues and organs together, along with its disorders.

Cardiorespiratory

Cardiology itself is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the heart as well as parts of the circulatory system. The respiratory system, as a system closely associated with the field of cardiology, is a system that involves the organs that allow gas exchange within the body. Cardiorespiratory together creates a focus for questions and study cases around the heart, lungs, tubes, and muscles in the body used for breathing and circulation.

A combination of two fields located in close proximity within the human body, uroreproduction combines the disciplines of the branch of medicine and physiology concerned with the function and disorders of the urinary system with that of the system of sex organs and its diseases.

Infectious Diseases

The infectious disease field covers all communicable diseases encountered in various regions of the world. This field of competition encourages participants to thoroughly comprehend the diseases, from identifying the etiology and determining the diagnosis until giving pharmacological and non pharmacological management.

Communicable diseases are a severe burden caused by an array of different microorganisms, parasites, land animals, sea animals, and arrhropods.
